The Cold Hollow Sculpture Park, in Enosburg Falls, Vermont, contains over 100 acres of rolling fields, as well as over 100 enormous sculptures. It is the life's work of David Stromeyer, who works and resides there with his wife, Sarah. The sculptures are mostly made of steel, although a few are cast in concrete.

I've photographed the sculptures from the ground for years, but took my Skydio drone out to the park this fall to try to get aerial video. It turns out that my flight skills are not up to the challenge of making graceful videos, but I was able to grab some frames from the videos to show how some of the sculptures look from above.

I clearly need to practice flying and managing the camera as the drone orbits a sculpture, but I also learned a few lessons of a different kind. The most interesting pictures involve changing the angle from which one views the sculptures, so just sitting above it and rotating is pretty boring. Orbiting will be nice once I get the hang of it, and maybe even a combination of orbiting and a vertical spiral. Also, I need to come at each sculpture from multiple angles. Finally, the background is important: sometimes I want to photograph from one angle, but another sculpture interferes visually in the distance. All good things to consider next year.

The sculptures change as you walk around them, so there are quite a few pictures that appear to be almost identical. Try to approach each picture with a fresh mind.
